NOVICE TIPS

If this is your first HPDE, welcome to PDS! Here are some tips to make your first time enjoyable and hassle-free.

Show up early - Gates usually open between 6a and 7a, and in many cases there is an "early drop off" period the night before the event. There will be a lot going on the morning of the event so don't show up fashionably late. You'll miss something.

Get checked in - Everyone must sign the liability waiver at the gate, and must check in with Momentum. Check in station will vary from track to track, look for flags and banners or ask someone. Please bring:

  • Your helmet
  • Your inspection form
  • Money/credit card if you need to settle up

Make sure the car is ready:

  • Get your car inspected or perform a self-inspection per the rules
  • Make sure that you have clean, fresh brake fluid and plenty of brake pad remaining
  • Fill the tank
  • Clean everything out of the cockpit and trunk areas - cups, PCs, toys, trash, even floor mats
  • Torque your lug nuts
  • Check your tire pressure
  • Check your oil and coolant levels
  • Number your car (blue painter's tape works well and is cheap, the pro look is good too)

Bring the right stuff:

  • Pop up for shade unless you've rented a garage
  • Chair
  • Cash
  • Water and snacks
  • Tools as needed
  • Engine oil

Dress the part

  • Close-toe shoes (no sandals, flip-flops, bare feet etc)
  • Snell SA-rated helmet
  • Pants, natural fibers (no shorts or skirts)
  • Shirt, natural fiber (no tank tops or sleeveless)
  • Light colors for summer, layers in colder months
  • Drivers of race-prepped cars must wear full race gear

Prep the Driver:

  • Get plenty of rest
  • Stay hydrated

Spectators are welcome at PDS events. During the lunch break, we offer parade laps for all who are interested. Parade laps allow everyone the opportunity to drive the road course configuration being used that weekend. They are driven at normal street speeds with seat belts on, but no helmets are required. An advanced driver or instructor leads the group around the course for five laps. No passing, racing or "slingshotting" is allowed during parade laps.
