Road America.....It's Go Time!

Postby Chad - DTM » Wed Apr 19, 2017 1:01 pm

Dirty Thirty Motorsports is excited to get back to Road America. Looks like a great turnout with lots of familiar faces on the entry list.

Been a couple years, but we are looking forward to plenty of tall tales and lies at the Brown Baer and Siebkens!

This will be our first time racing with WRL and second trip to Road America. Got the new engine swap running last week and picked up a $200 back up engine from craigslist over the weekend. What could possibly go wrong?

Fifty Shades of Blue will be there with the miata. We are stepping up to GP2 this year which should be interesting.

Curious, what was your reason for going to GP2?

Looking forward to seeing you all at Road America. Team LMR will be bringing our GP1 and GP2 BMWs.

Question for Joey or anyone else with knowledge: I've been looking for confirmation of the course for Road America (use of the Bend or not), but cannot find anything that specifies - any insight?

See you all in a week.

We had a fun weekend and want to thank Joey, Denise and all the WRL staff for a great racing weekend. Enjoyed catching up with racers new and old. We didn't do well as we worked through issues with our car but overall had a great time at a fantastic venue.

This was a very well run event. Our win in GP2 (2nd overall) has got to be our best performance ever as Holy Rollers \ RBankracing.

Anyone know what happened to the white 944? I heard a rumor that it crashed in the kink, but I never saw it return to the paddock. They were pitted next to us.

I believe this is the car that got T-boned by the Orange #38 camaro.
944 lost it in the kink, spun drivers door, caught it, 180 snapped it the other way.
BAR was entering kink with #38 behind them, ABR moved to miss and when they moved, 944 was right there and camaro had no chance to avoid collision.

ABR, BAR, whatever... lol. Typo...
I thought Joey said BAR was coming into the kink when the 944 was spinning. Guess it doesn't really matter which car it was, #38 camaro hit the 944 because of unfortunate timing - none of which was his fault.

BTW... best part of the weekend:

While working pit out, guy comes over, asks me to go to wall and see if I can see anything on the blend line...
I look, shrug and say "yeah, maybe about where corner worker 1 is"... what is it...
He says "my cellphone - set it on top of car during pit stop". Lol....
So I called control and asked if corner 1 could take a look and confirm there is a cell phone laying on the line.
There may or may not have been laughing on the radio as they confirmed with corner 1 that indeed, there was a phone.

About 10 minutes later safety ran across the track, grabbed it and ran back.
I have no idea what shape it was in as I never heard anything more about it.

If you are reading this and it was your phone, LMK how it made out and thanks for the story!

lol... That reminds me of a similar story from when I was working pit out last year at Gingerman for that series that uses timers on their pitstops. In the first half hour, I had a feeling that I may have left a timer on a certain car and let them enter the track. I never thought much of it until with about 5 minutes left in the race I walked over to the outside pit wall to watch a little closer. That's when I saw a timer sitting on the inside of turn one. I couldn't believe that it sat there for nearly 8 hours and was unscathed, so I figured I would pick it up after the race. Just then somebody cut to the inside entering turn one, ran over the timer and blasted it into pieces! Oops!
