SuperMiata is one of the most affordable wheel to wheel production car racing series in the US. Now being hosted East of the Rockies by World Racing League, SuperMiata (SPM) offers racers an easy, affordable and no-hassle alternative to other forms of sprint racing.
No “pro” engines. No complex tech and impound. No engine tear downs. Just great, close racing, coaching and camaraderie. The original SPM cars are very rewarding to drive having a better suspension, more power and better aerodynamics than other “Spec” Miata classes. Parity is achieved by a power cap and all other variables controlled. A front running SuperMiata can be built for well under $10k, runs on pump gas and reasonably-priced Maxxis RC-1 Spec tires that last several weekends. Since the origination of SPM, two more classes have been added to offer more choice and lower cost. All SPM cars are also eligible to race in WRL’s endurance events.
SPM is broken down into three classes providing something for everyone. Whether you’re bringing a Spec Miata, a modified Miata or a killer Miata, there is an SPM class that makes joining the fun as easy as possible. And the bonus here is that each SuperMiata class corresponds to a WRL class, so you can sprint and endurance race the same car, even on the same weekend!
S3 - Jump Right In
Have a 1.6L Spec Miata and want to race without making any modifications? This is your class. No need to do anything to your car, race your NA as-is in it’s NASA- or SCCA-spec configuration. Cars are limited to 110whp. S3 class cars will be very competitive in WRL’s GP3 class.
S2 - The Original "SuperMiata"
Get the most from what the Miata has to offer in the original SPM class. Add up to 140whp, some basic aero mods and adjustable dampers to augment the handling and fun that is Miata. S2 is the most popular SPM class and it translates to GP2 in WRL.
S1 - The Ultimate Miata
Take your Miata experience to the extreme. Add a spec turbo kit to create a 220WHP rocket rolling on 245/40 tires with a big rear wing and splitter. This new class was created for those who want to push the Miata experience to the limit. S1 cars will land in WRL’s GTO class.
The standard SPM race is a back-to-back sprint format. Standing start for the 1st sprint race, invert the field, rolling start for the 2nd sprint. This format can be repeated 2-4 times each weekend, combined with practice sessions and coaching, there is no better way to race, learn and enjoy over the weekend.
WRL-operated SuperMiata races will be held on the same weekends as WRL endurance races, and others will be stand-alone or partnered with our HPDE program. Check the WRL schedule page for dates and tracks near you.
